Bali Hai Tiki Adventure

This morning started out with a free breakfast for most of the family at Hilton San Diego Resort and Spa. I guess it does pay to be a gold member. After breakfast we checked out the pool and ran into a mother duck and her ducklings. They were about to go for a dip in the pool before all of the crazy people woke up and took over. Then we made a quick dash into the marketplace to pick up some floaties for the kids (since we forgot to pack theirs). The rest of the morning and afternoon was spent at the pool. The kids (all three of them) had a blast in the pool. Meanwhile, I sat comfortably sunning in a lounge chair with a peach belini and my Real Simple magazine.

By about 3:30 we headed in to get dressed and ready for our 5:00 pm reservation at Bali Hai, a Polynesian restaurant Brian’s been dying to visit. As soon as I looked at the drink menu I declared that I would be the designated driver. Brian ordered from the Strong Libations menu, of course.

This place was all decked out and full of tiki-ness. Brian was in absolute heaven. The decor was awesome and the views were spectacular. We saw plans take off from the San Diego airport and seals diving for bait in the harbor. The food was pretty good too. I’ll have to be sure and write a review on Yelp! Here are some of the highlights from our evening at Bali Hai.

After dinner we headed back to the resort for family night where everyone got to make S’mores. Ethan is a huge fan of all of the ingredients but had only tried one s’more in his lifetime. He was anxious to make and eat some tonight. Surprisingly, as not-picky as Violet is she is not a fan of marshmallows; she must get that from her dad because I love them. In any case, we headed over to the pool area and made our dessert. It was a hit!

After chillin’ in our room for a bit we stepped out on to our patio and watched the Sea World fireworks from our room. It was a pretty good view and it we didn’t have to support those whale jailers. After a long day in the sun the kids were beyond exhausted, not to mention crashing from the sugar high. So, it was off to bed for them. I love how Gigi (Ethan’s giraffe blanket that he got from Teena as a gift when he was born) is wrapped around Ethan’s neck; he loves that thing and so do I.
