On April 7th my maternal grandmother will turn 90. Today, Easter, we are celebrating this milestone at her house. She has outlived my grandfather, her husband of over 60 years, and my mother, who died in 2003 at the age of 54. She raised nine children with my grandfather. My grandma is the glue that keeps our family together. She is a pillar of strength and she credits God for all that she has and all that she is. She has taught me that nothing else in life matters as long as you believe in God, that His love will see you through everything in life.
My grandmother has been a real inspiration to me. She and my grandfather raised me during the summers while my parents were working. She taught me to work hard, to love hard, and that family is our livelihood. Today, as we celebrate her life I can’t help but think how ironic it is that we celebrate it on Easter. According to wikipedia.com, “The New Testament teaches that the resurrection of Jesus, which Easter celebrates, is a foundation of the Christian faith. The resurrection established Jesus as the powerful Son of God and is cited as proof that God will judge the world in righteousness. God has given Christians ‘a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.’ Christians, through faith in the working of God are spiritually resurrected with Jesus so that they may walk in a new way of life.” Click here to read more about Easter on wikipedia.com.
God bless you, Grandma.
