We decided to kick off this year’s summer vacation with a road trip up the coast. This would be our first big road trip in one of our Teslas which would require several charging stops. For our first charge we stopped in Buellton. It took about an hour to get the charge we needed to get about a 90% charge. After charging we stopped at OstrichLand so the kids could see real, live ostriches and emus for the first time. I’ve been here many times in the past but this is the first time I’ve ever had to pay to see the ostriches. This place has figured out that they can make a few bucks from tourists on their way to Solvang. Here are some highlights (hover over the photos to see the captions):
After the stop at OstrichLand, we drove on to Solvang for lunch, shopping and desserts…lots of desserts (hover over the photos to see the captions).
After Solvang, we headed to Morro Bay. No one, except me, had seen Morro Rock so I figured it would be good to swing by. And, it was a great excuse to stop and pick up a crap-ton of salt water taffy. No place has better salt water taffy than Carousel Taffy.
We ended our day in San Simeon. We got there just in time to check in, get washed up, and get in bed. Tomorrow will be a full day including a trip to Hearst Castle. Off to bed…
