As usual, the LA County Fair always comes around at the hottest time of the year in southern California – the end of summer. This year, it was one of the coolest we’ve had in awhile – it was in the low 90s. This year we came prepared with hats, glasses and a buttload of sunscreen. For us, it was not about looking cute it was about not burning…or melting for that matter. And, to stick with tradition it was the four of us plus one…Uncle James.
The first thing we did when we arrived was head over to see the animals. Both of our kids love animals and we thought it would be best to get over there before it got any hotter. We didn’t take too many pictures there because we were so busy petting all of the animals but here are a few.
All day long the kids begged for photos in the numerous standees throughout the fair. Some of these are down right hilarious.
One of the most fun things the kids did was visit the Farmer for a Day & Grocery Store attraction. There, they got to plant seeds, milk a “cow”, harvest eggs, pick fruits and vegetables, sell their farmed goods for cash, and then use the cash to buy groceries. It was a perfect learning experience for my four and six year olds. They had a blast.
Once we finished in the farm section we headed over to some of the exhibit halls. We stumbled upon one called America’s Kids that was sponsored by King Taco and wandered in. This area turned out to be a lot of fun. The biggest hit of the hall was the dress up areas. They had areas for both boys and girls and our kids were in heaven (not to mention air conditioning!). Trying to pry them out of costumes turned out to be a huge challenge though.
And then there was the food. Do I really need to say more than that? It’s deep fried fair food. And, it was amazing. Brian had his third annual triple Krispy Kreme cheeseburger too.
Finally, we capped off the night with a few rides and games at the carnival. Every year the kids manage to find one stuffed animal they can’t leave without and the men feel compelled to win them. This year we ended up with a full sized unicorn. :-\
All in all it was a fun day for the kids, an exhausting day for the adults, and full 12-hours of blissful memories. As you can see everyone had a great time.
Until next year!
